Transforming Growth Factor b1 Is Expressed in the Jejunum after Experimental Cryptosporidium parvum Infection in Humans
نویسندگان
چکیده
Biopsies from volunteers challenged with Cryptosporidium parvum were examined for transforming growth factor b1 (TGF-b1). None of the prechallenge biopsies exhibited TGF-b. Seven of 12 volunteers with oocyst shedding expressed TGF-b versus 2 of 13 volunteers without detected oocysts. The association of TGF-b expression with oocyst excretion and the timing of symptoms suggests that TGF-b mediates intestinal healing.

متن کاملA rapid IL-17 response to Cryptosporidium parvum in the bovine intestine
Cryptosporidium parvum causes diarrhoea, due to villi damage, in livestock and humans globally. Immunity develops after repeated infections but initial infections can be severe, highlighting the importance of early infection dynamics. We have modelled early C. parvum infection in bovine jejunum biopsies. IL-17A accumulated over time peaking at 9h post-infection, with no effect of infection on I...

ABSTRACT Background and Objectives: Cryptosporidium parvum is a coccidian protozoan that causes diarrhea in immunocompromised humans and newborn animals. The severity of the disease depends on the immunological status of the affected. Cryptosporiosis can have lethal effects on immunocompromised individuals such as AIDS patients. About 10% of...

Cryptosporidium parvum is a zoonotic protozoan parasite with a wide range of vertebrate hosts. The present study was conducted to determine the prevalence of Cryptosporidium parvum in urban and rural dogs of the Ahvaz area. Faecal samples were collected randomly from 93 dogs between May 2005 and September 2007. The studied dogs were divided into two groups (urban and rural) and based on age int...
متن کاملTransforming growth factor beta1 ameliorates intestinal epithelial barrier disruption by Cryptosporidium parvum in vitro in the absence of mucosal T lymphocytes.
Exposure to oocysts of the protozoan Cryptosporidium parvum causes intestinal epithelial cell dysfunction in vivo and in vitro, but effective means by which mucosal injury might be prevented remain unclear. We examined the ability of transforming growth factor beta1 (TGF-beta1)-a cytokine synthesized and released by cells in the intestine-to preserve the barrier function of human colonic epithe...
